Been A While

OK so it has been quite a long time. Life is busy. Deal with it.

It's often said that change is the only constant in life. It's so true. So much has changed this year it seems kind of crazy. Although my immediate circumstances (work and living arrangements) haven't changed much my friendships and leaders etc. have changed a heck of a lot. Change is hard and exciting at the same time. I like it, and yet I often find myself raging against it as I struggle to keep hold of what I once knew.

I wrote a song about it. You can listen to it at www.myspace.com/annettebinks
I's called "Ride This Wave"

I went out photographying with Corina last Tuesday night after rehearsal. It was really fun. I took this shot under the Narrows Bridge with my Ixus on a 15 second shutter speed.

My Hallelujah

Sometimes I wonder
how I ended up here,
Coz I'm still just a boy
in these over-sized shoes

And I've nothing to say
that won't add to the noise
Enough has been said.
And not much to give
but a few simple tunes

And this is my song
this is my hallelujah
and all that I want
ia to sing it for you
And this is my heart
and I'm bringing it to you
I know that it's broken
but it plays hallelu

Hallelujah
Hallelu

I feel this old road
goes much further than I do
But I keep stumbling on
and lean into your grace
'Cause I wanna go home
I wanna lay down beside you
I wanna feel your sweet breath
on the side of my face

This is my song
This is my hallelujah
and all that I want
is to sing it for you
This is my heart
and I'm bringing to to you
I know that it's broken
but it plays hallelu

Hallelujah
Hallelu

SessionSixty: Sonny Edition

Nearly 2 litres of juice got spilled in Sonny last night, as we were cleaning it up I decided to do a sessionsixty

The Rules:

Black and White
24 shots only
400 ISO
60 Minutes
No editing

I accidentally only took 23 shots...and pressed the shutter twice on one shot so there were two exactly the same so I deleted one.

Back To Reality

I had an absolute ball in Dunsborough. Surfing, bodyboarding, snorkeling, making gumnut men...so much fun. I didn't rest much, but it was nice to escape suburbia for a while.

Some Kent St Lovin'

Some youth kids Love Attacked Kent St. High School this week. It was dirty work but totally worth it. We pulled out heck of a lot of weeds, mulched some garden beds, painted some doors and cleaned some windows. Sometimes love is messy.

The experience brought a whole new meaning to "where two or more are gathered in my name" for me. We weren't there to do churchy things...we were there to be the church, gathered together in His name, I certainly felt blessed to be there.

We finished up with some Shovel Cricket

Just A Thought

In light of Easter approaching:

I wonder why the evangelical church places such an emphasis on "saving people" and "witnessing to the lost"

Jesus didn't say "I came to save you all from going to hell" he said "I came to give you life and life more abundantly"

So why is the emphasis so often on the "save them from hell" side of things and not the "bring them life in abundance" side of things?

Is it because it's a heck of a lot easier to get people to believe that Jesus died for their sins than it is to live life with them, to disciple them, to help them live a fulfilled life?

Is it because we're too selfish to actually love them with abandon, to give out of our own time and our own lives, to show them the love their heavenly father has for them...instead of just telling them about it?

Broken

Everything is broken
Everything is broken
Everything is breaking down, breaking down

Everything is bleeding
Everything is bleeding
Everything is breaking down, breaking down

A pledge allegiance to a country without borders, without politicians
Watching for my sky to get torn apart
We are broken, we are bitter
We're the problem, we're the politicians
Watching for our sky to get torn apart
C'mon and break me

Entropy and Aching
Where have we been aiming?
Everything is fading out, fading out
We are the faded, splitted, and sedated
Everything is fading out, fading out

A pledge allegiance to a country without borders, without politicians
Watching for my sky to get torn apart
We are broken, we are bitter
We're the problem, we're the politicians
Watching for our sky to get torn apart
C'mon and break me
C'mon and break me

A pledge allegiance to a country without borders, without politicians,
politicians, politicians..

I am broken, I am bitter
I'm the problem, I'm the politician
Watching for my sky to get torn apart
C'mon and break me
C'mon and break me

Left to its own devices the human race is screwed...I'm so very thankful we have a saviour.

God Help Me

The way we know we've been transferred from death to life is that we love our brothers and sisters. Anyone who doesn't love is as good as dead. Anyone who hates a brother or sister is a murderer, and you know very well that eternal life and murder don't go together.

This is how we've come to understand and experience love: Christ sacrificed his life for us. This is why we ought to live sacrificially for our fellow believers, and not just be out for ourselves. If you see some brother or sister in need and have the means to do something about it but turn a cold shoulder and do nothing, what happens to God's love? It disappears. And you made it disappear.

My dear children, let's not just talk about love; let's practice real love. This is the only way we'll know we're living truly, living in God's reality. It's also the way to shut down debilitating self-criticism, even when there is something to it. For God is greater than our worried hearts and knows more about us than we do ourselves.

1 John 3:14-20

God help me to love better...

Slow Down

After slowing down for a bit I've realised just how tired I am. Only 8 more weeks till holidays! I have very successfully stuffed my sleeping patterns...which will need to be rectified this week.

Question...does anyone even read this thing?

Bitter Sweet

Yesterday was bitter-sweet for me.

Over the last month or so God has been speaking to me about spending this year developing my skills. I couldn't do that and work two jobs at the same time. I talked to my parents and they are fully supportive of my doing this.

Yesterday was my last day at Midland Brick. I am heading into a new season.
That was the sweet.

I got to rehearsal last night to hear that Dayna, my music director and friend was resigning from her position. She has poured her heart and soul into the team, she has been so faithful, she has loved us so so much.
My heart is broken. It breaks that she has been so hurt.
That was the bitter.

Youth Camp 07 - Nuts About People

| View Show | Create Your Own

So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you. And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It's your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it.

I Got A New Toy!

I FINALLY got myself a digital compact camera. It's a Canon Ixus 850IS. I've had my eye on one for quite some time so it's nice to actually have it here. Sarah brought it back from her trip to HK as well as some other fun stuff including a nice bunch of purple pens. I've been playing a lot :D

Busy

I suppose a post would be good... but I'm not sure if anyone actually reads this anymore.

How did I spend my New Year's?
Asleep...I was a grumpy bum so I went to bed early, didn't even hear the countdown I was so out of it.

I've been working a lot. It's going well. Still looking for a house, but put in an application for one today. Teaching starts back up at the beginning of Feb.

Camp is NEXT WEEK! I've been praying about it heaps, drawing closer to God. I have a good feeling about camp, i don't know what it's going to be like, but I'll have word on that next week once it's all over....piccies too.
